Targeted In The Desert

From Jeff Jarvis’ Twitter feed: Palin is not to be blamed for pulling the trigger but she is to be blamed for overheated graphic rhetoric and better fucking regret it now.

No one is saying Sarah Palin and others like her are directly responsible for the madman who went on a shooting spree at an Arizona congresswoman’s event today, but can’t we all agree that graphics like this one of Palin’s are irresponsible?

Yes, and the main stream media that hypes confrontation is also to blame.

One of the talking heads on CNN this morning said, and I paraphrase, that Sarah Palin should not be held responsible for the shootings, but that Palin acted irresponsibly by oking those images to go out. I understand that she ordered the crosshair stuff to be be pulled from her website yesterday. If true, that's acting responsibly.A little late, but…

I agree with the CNN talking head and with you, Terrence.Barack Obama himself told left-wing activists, “If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun.” Maybe BHO should tone it down, too.And evidently, the left-wing Markos Moulitsas had (until recently) a similar crosshairs map on While he doesn't cut as large a profile as Palin, I would condemn Kos in the strongest of terms as well:

Here’s a little known fact that the American people may be interested to know. Many right-wingers are abducted in their sleep and brought to covert training camps where they are brain washed, and then turned into weapons. The ringleaders like Sarah Palin have a secret way of communicating with them. To the untrained eye it might seem that the following portion of a piece that Sarah Palin wrote would appear to be harmless, and ordinary, but I can assure you that it’s anything but harmless and ordinary. Watch and learn.Iran COntinues to defy the international coMMunity in its drive to Acquire Nuclear weapons. Arab leadDers in the region rightlY fear a nuclear-armed Iran. We suspected this befOre, bUT nOw we Know for sure because of leaked dIpLomatic cabLes. King AbduLLah of SauDi Arabia "frEquently exhorted the U.S. to attack Iran to put an end to its nuclear weapons prograM," accOrding to these Communications. Officials fRom JordAn said The Iranian nuclear program Should be stopped by any means necessary. Officials from the United Arab Emirates and Egypt saw Iran as evil, an "existential threat" and a sponsor of terrorism. If Iran isn't stopped from obtaining nuclear weapons, it could trigger a regional nuclear arms race in which these countries would seek their own nuclear weapons to protect themselves. In order to reveal the encrypted message to the untrained eye, I took the liberty of capitalizing and underlining the key letters that make up a very disturbing message. It says {I command you to kill all Democrats.} Then while Sarah Palin, or one of the other ringleaders are giving a speech they will activate these human weapons by using a phrase that goes unnoticed to the general public, something like “Afghanistan Banana Stand”. This will turn these conditioned citizens into killing machines. It’s hard to believe that the Republican would resort to this method of retribution. Now that you’ve seen it with your own eyes, we can all agree that the evidence is undeniable. The Republicans are behind all of the horrific disasters that have plagued our country for decades. With proof like this the Republicans will have no alternative but to admit to all of their wrong doings and take what’s coming to them.

Kudos, VR! Thanks for sharing the fine essay you're submitting as part of your application to The Sorbonne.

I am not sure whether to laugh at the ignorance in this post or to cry for fear that our nation is being taken over by ignorant thought. The man was unstable and snapped. There is no particular reason for his choice of place or victims … he was just plain crazy.Posts like the ones here feed into that 24 hour news thing that those who post seem to object too.As for the media that 'hypes confrontation' … seems we have had a bit of that going on in our own backyard lately.

Mike – you are spot on … BUT … the graphic is STILL irresponsible rhetoric that feeds into the frenzy that often results in violence … the graphic STILL has no place in civilized, productive political discourse … the graphic STILL is a misuse of one's right to free speech in our glorious nation. We must work together to eliminate all such errors in judgment.
